This headline in the Washington Times gets the Bush/Obama achievement of
last Sunday just about right, I think:

Obama got bin Laden just like Nixon reached the moon

The United States did reach the moon under Nixon's leadership, of course,
though the engineers and astronauts did all the real work and took all the
real risks; and Nixon deserved credit for sticking with the space program
even through something of an economic downturn and a period of relative
public disinterest in its work. And he got some credit, too. But with good
reason it was not his name but Kennedy's that was associated with the
broader project that made that achievement possible (a project, by the
way, that did not end with the moon landing).

Not a perfect comparison of course (Nixon didn't run on ending the Saturn
V program, for instance), but not a bad one.
