That's not an unfair assessment.  But even if she merely stumbled on how 
to deflect it, she still stumbled.  And stumbling when faced with a "trap 
question" is not a quality I think we'd want in a potential president.

Especially when the whole *point* of the question was to get a sense of 
Palin's philosophy and knowledge of the world, etc.  I mean, everyone knew 
what magazines Ronald Reagan read, because he sometimes wrote for them 
too!  But Palin was such a blank to most people, and had spent virtually 
her entire adult life in Alaska of all places, so, understandably, people 
wanted to get a sense of who she was, what she stood for, etc., etc.
