Seriously, Thom I can understand why someone else, (don't know who and don't really care), figured it was pointless arguing with you about this. You are denying historical, political, diplomatic, and practical reality. My first time defending someone... 1949 and pre-1967 are the same borders. And one of the big requirements of the Obama speech was all the things the Palestinian state would have to acknowledge, agree to and renounce. This is hardly a gift given free to Palestinians while telling Israel to suck it up. And yet, the reactions from the (largely) right leaning critics of yesterdays speech act is if that is exactly what is happening. My first time defending someone... That's a completely different statement. Saying that changes to the 1949 lines ust be mutually agreed to is directed a the Palestinians - IOW they must accede to them in order to have peace with Israel. The 1967 borders are indefensible, he Arabs proved that by invading them. Practically speaking demanding Israel o back to them is tantamount to declaring open season on Israel - which if you elieve what the Palestinians, Iranians, etc. have said, does result in genocide for Israelis. I think Netanyahu's response should be to tell us that they'll consider going ack to the 1967 borders when we give back Mexico or all the land west of the ississippi. They have far more justification for keeping their borders than we do for keeping our. ike F. _______________________________ rom: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> o: [email protected] ent: Fri, May 20, 2011 12:42:43 AM ubject: [DADL-OT] Fwd: Re: Fwd: Wow... My first time defending someone... ... My first time defending someone... Apparently for both sides. And Yes...Bush did support this: resident George W. Bush adopted this same formula. In 2004 he gave hen-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon a letter saying that the United States ecognized that Israel would not return to the 1967 lines and that it ould annex large settlements near its borders. But Bush also declared fter a 2005 meeting with Abbas that U.S. policy was that “changes to he 1949 armistice lines must be mutually agreed to.” Since the 1949 ines are the same as the 1967 lines, Bush was, like Obama, saying that he old lines would be the starting point. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/post/obamas-mideast-peace-gaffe/2011/04/19/AFyl0R7G_blog.html hom ttp://thomwade.wordpress.com/ ttp://www.cafepress.com/Thomwade ttp://www.in-one-ear.com ______________________________________ I want a song to learn and sing, of a life requited."-Echo & the unnymen ----Original Message----- rom: Karl Swenson <[email protected]> o: 'DADL (off topic)' <[email protected]> ent: Fri, May 20, 2011 12:07 am ubject: Re: [DADL-OT] Fwd: Wow... My first time defending someone... Well, I asked exactly what was so terrible about Obama's peech...noting it was similar to Bush and Clinton who both agreed that he 1967 border with some exchanges was the best way to go. Israel has ot disputed it either. So what was so bad. His response was to gnore it. So I asked for clarification about what was so terrible bout the speech. No answer given-except to ask why I supported the enocide of the Jews. I pointed out that that was a cheap shot, unfair imagine if I countered a pro-lifer by simply saying "Why do you hate omen?") and said I was out of the discussion. His response? Good, ecause I clearly had no idea what I was talking about (in spite of him ever enlightening me, merely making baseless accusations. Then I osted the same comment (naming no names) I posted here about my urprise that the proper response to sincere questions being accused of upporting Jewish Genocide. His response? To call me an idiot and STILL not offer a defense of his easons. Oh, and call me out for mis-spelling Israel. It was just to much and his unwillingness to dialog thoughtfully, as we ave in the past made me decide it was time to axe him.
