Obviously it wasn't obvious to me.  I tend to take people at their word.  Or ask 
for clarification, which I did, (I'll strive to ask nicer in the future).

I'm not sure what I said above that prompted that question.  Unless you think I 
object to anyone saying anything at all about the incident.  That is not the 
case.  I think that commenting the way Ebert did, and the defense of same based 
on the assertion that what he said technically qualifies as true, is wrong.  


If Ebert had merely said "drunk driving is bad", (or something like that), I 
wouldn't think he was an ahole, just a dumb ass for stating the obvious.  It was 
what he said, and/or how he said it that makes him an ahole in my book.  And 
accordingly wrong for saying it, he was being a smart ass and it was mean 
spirited.

We hang in different circles.  I don't know of a single person who would defend 
the activity, even if they were sympathetic for the loss of life.  And I don't 
look to Ebert as being a necessary, or particularly effective, puncturerer of 
personality cults or celebrity.
