There's a reason for that, I think.

He's not just cracking jokes or throwing insults. He thinks about things,
and writes what he thinks.

We live in such a fractured culture that it is almost impossible to take the
slams of politicians (for example) at face value. I always take Roger at
face value. (There's a joke in there somewhere.)
