You may be right, i just always called it
"frankenbass" figuring someone broke a neck or wanted the jazz neck on the p body.
someday i'll try to do the research.

Right around that time frame, Fender was moving their operations out of the old plant, and a number of non-standard instruments came out, being slapped together out of whatever they had laying around on work benches. I guess it was easier moving things as complete instruments than assorted miscelaneous parts. I read about this in one of the books on Fender history. That may be the way it was born!Rob Smith

lowdowns,

i have 2 basses as my performing comes to a slow end.

A 74 Fender hybrid jazz body/ p neck (don't think they made em like that but it is how i got it) Olympic white w/blk pickguard, rosewood p neck.Had the pickups rewound recently and it has a wonderful phat dead sound for motown and the blues.

But my workhourse is a 1998 tobacco burst 57 reissue p bass. came with the gold anodized pickguard, replaced with a black pickguard, natural neck.

It sounds great thru anything and it does what i need it to, and records quietly and clean.
