Has anybody else tried one of these babies out? I've tried out the Icon & was very impressed with it, but I wanted a better build quality & I couldn't afford a German made 1963 reissue 500/1, so I bought the Hofner Contemporary 500/1 bass. The Icon is a nice bass, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Contemporary 500/1 bass, which is a much better built bass with real German Spruce, real German nickel hardware & real Hofner pickups {much better parts & tone than the Icon} too. They also put a block inside the body of the Contemporary bass, for really great sustain. I've been playing this bass pretty hard too. It looks fragile, but it's as tough as nails though & with round-wounds, it's a very versatile bass. I've been really putting this bass through the paces & it hasn't let me down yet. It'll play just about anything too, except for maybe metal & funk. Otherwise, I highly recommend this bass to anybody that wants a nice lite bass,
that can handle just about anything you throw at it .
