I'm sure I will receive no mercy either! Bassists come in 2 flavors... A guitar nailed to a tree stump.... And the more common consummate smartass. Guess that long neck brings out the showman in us. And remember, the only differance between a showMAN and and a ShowOFF is 3 letters! Jeez, I love this business and the people in it!! Marcel was a fantastic bass player and musician that helped put Swedish hard rock and metal on the map with his early commitment as bass player for Yngwie Malmsteen in the 80's (as well as a short period with Europe). In 1988 Marcel formed the band Talisman along with his friend and singer Jeff Scott Soto. Talisman became his main gig for his last 20 years – saluted with a big Anniversary gig at the Sweden Rock Festival 2007. Marcel also performed as a solo bass player at the EBS Bass n Drum Days, a yearly event that was arranged between 2001 – 2007. I own/play 8 basses- all of them active p/u's except one. I am dependant on using a compressor in both establishing my tone and playing style (believe it or not, so does Tony Levin- he uses these very rare vacuum tube compressors/ stomp size compressor made by a company from upstate New York that went out of business called Retrospect: good luck finding one, I've been searching for years..) I use a compressor more like a sustainer (also evens out the notes and at the same time enhances the tone IMHO anyhow) than a limiter (which squashes your signal)- so I always keep the attack delay near zero and my compression near max. I've tried many different expensive Rack Mount units: DBX, Ashley, Rocktron, Symetrics, ART, Alesis, RANE, Urie- to name a few- many of them worked GREAT for use as limiters and clipping out peak signals, just not for my personal applications. . One of my first stompbox compressors that gave >me > >>> > > >>> > what I was looking for was a Vintage Ibanez CP9 (A little noisy until I modded it with military-grade caps and such)- which I still own as a "back up"- Other Stomp-box compressors I've tried; Boss, Keeley, DoD, MXR, Demeter, Arion, Tom Scholl's... just didn't have the gain/bite I was accustomed to. I own an ART Gold TUBE MP pre-amp and that gives me just enough if I use my vintage all tube heads (very clean too- right out of the box) but doesn't seem to have quite "enough" (even maxed out) when I use any of my solid state rigs. > >>> > > >>> > > > >>> > > >>> > >What I've discovered about 4 or 5 years ago, turned out to be the best compressor HANDS DOWN, I have ever used for my Live/Studio Applications. You can get a lot of "bang for your buck". I personally don't like any of their stompboxes because they are all S.M.T. components, and you can't upgrade or mod them- plus most of their "effects" are mostly digital, and I personally prefer the warmth of Analog... Although I would never put my trust in one of their Power Amps (without one or two B.U's of course.. ha ha) there are plenty of Professional Live Sound Touring Companies that use truckloads of some of their rack gear for Live Sound Reinforcement- For instance their compressors are so "affordable" you can afford to have one limiter dedicated for each drum tom... > >>> > > >>> > > > >>> > > >>> > >Out of a half dozen Bass Rigs, I didn't own that would fit in the front seat of my Toyota Celica Convertible- I Love the sound of Hartke Aluminum-Cone speakers, but it seems as they've discontinued all the smaller "KickBack" combo 10's and 12's... all I could find locally were 15's and they were too large to fit in my sports car.
