What he said! ;-)

At one point, I went hunting for an AEB (Acoustic Electric Bass) for reasons similar to yours. I discovered that it did not matter whether you spent $150 or $1500, you were only going to get so loud (which wasn't very). I ended up with an Ibanez that was a nice compromise, but do realize that this whole category is a compromise. If vocals are mic'd, see if you can get a mic to amplify your sound, otherwise some kid on a cheap First Act guitar is going to drown you out!

Peace through music!

your screwed!!
an upright would be what you need, an acoustic bass is kinda loud only within 1 foot...
washtub bass maybe!!

Yo Victa, whatsoever you do, remember this here. You can't hold no groove, If you ain't got no pocket !

                  OK,  New question.

Thinking of buying an acoustic Bass

here's the situation

I play my olde 64 Epiphone FT-79 Texan flat top guitar at an unplugged jam session at the corner beer joint where a couple of us get together after our 1/2 day Saturday day jobs.

The EPI is old and dry as hell and absolutly sings and even drowns out my buddy's brand new 12 string Martin. I just never heard a flat top bass that could even run with the Marty, let alone my Texan.

Now there is nothing wrong with playing a git box at a hootenanny but I really woukld prefer to play the Bass. (Even to Kingston Trio tunes!) Any type of amplifier is strictly verboton so what's a guy to do?

Don't want to have to go out and buy another stand up bass just for a session.  I also sometimes get pretty drunk and walk home carying the Epi- (His name is "Jessie") and I just can't see me carying a 4/4 through the neighbor's back yard in that condition.

The big Spainish Guitaron also is not at all apealing to me. It just isn't a "real" bass.

What is everybody's opinion on what is the loudest  unplugged "acoustic" bass?

Later,

Steve
