OK Gang,

If we are going for a battery powered how’s this?

I happen to own an old Fender Sidekick Bass amp that a guy gave to me a couple of years ago. It had a blown speaker and I replaced it with an Eminence Bass Lite 12” speaker,.

At any rate I actually used it with a full drum kit and 2 guitars at the bar one night.. It wasn’t the dental tool My Showman or Kustom is (Knocks fillings out of teeth)  but you could tell their was a bass playing. It is more then enough to use with acoustics for sure.

Now, It draws 70 watts max at full power (Which you need 75% of the time with drums playing!) but that’s just  600mA. At 120V.

But I digress. As a rule of thumb an inverter draws about 10 times the power on the primary side as the output side. SOOOO. That’s like 6 amps (5.833--- to be exact)

Now, if you pull that amount of current for 4 hours you need a 24 AH (Amp Hour) Battery,  but in 4 hours there will be a duty cycle where you are not playing at all between tunes and you also will not be on a full bore open A string the whole 4 hours either. When the amp is not producing, it doesn’t pull as much power either.

Now, Check this,,,,,

18 AH = 3 hours at full power. You can also recharge it during breaks with either 120 volts or even from a cigarette lighter in the car,.

Then they also have these coffee cup inverters.

I’m going to give it a try and see if it works according to the calculations.
If it dose I’m may rip it apart and stick the battery pack in the bottom of the amp and then put the charger and the inverter in the top behind the amplifier section…I might even put the Volt Meter in the grille cloth, but I think it might get shaken to death!
If you want something that is all together for a few bucks more they also have this.

12V, Jumper pack and Air Compressor for starting the vehicles and filling flat tires at 3AM when you are leaving a gig in a snow storm, , and a 400W inverter to run your amp out on the beach too. I just might go that way and leave it in one piece and keep it with me at all times for emergencies and I can also use it when I want to go “unplugged” (from the wall anyway)

Later, The SmokeDog.
PS The gig Friday was pure hell. All noise and hair metal, but held my own. Wouldn’t even think of doing anything like that again, though. Hey, I owed a pal a favor. What was I going to do? (I felt like I lost a bet all night long!)

Did have one hell of an after party after at some girl’s place who lived across the street from the club though. They ran out of everything but Black Velvet and some kind of awful wine. Can’t believe the cops didn’t come!  I didn’t get home ‘till 9AM.

Man, I haven’t done anything like that for years and I’m getting a-way too olde to keep up!  I still got a touch of hangover and that was 3 days ago! Guess It was fun while it lasted, though,,,, just like the “old days”

Steve. The guy with the shakes and upset stomach! –Hope I get well before tomorrow morning.
