On my G&L L2K, I prefer using it in its passive mode, while my ZON Sonus 4 sounds great in active. It all depends on the instrument and the pickups I guess, as these two are about as far apart as one can get. It has Bartolini pickups in it. I recently purchased a used Lakland Darryl Jones for about $700. (nice huh? I didn't even have to use a gun!) After one show on the Darry Jones my band leader requests that I bring that bass to his stage from now on. He says the passive bass is sitting better in the mix on the recordings. (he records every show) I'm fine with this as the Darryl Jones is much lighter. I just wanted to share this with the group. I'm not sure if we ever hashed out the passive vs active pickup conversation as a group. Any thoughts on this matter? Ack.
