Question, do you feel there's too many models of Bass?

When I started out, decades ago!, there was only fender, Gibson, and Rick.Then , the jap copies came along, and so did Sir Pauls', Beatle Bass. Along the way, Alembic came about, etc , etc. Then Anthony Jacksons', Idea for a new type of bass guitar, the contrabass guitar. First, he lower His tuning, on his P-bass, because he thought about the bass pedals on a Hammond b 3. Then, because Leo fender made his electric bass in a guitar company, it should of been "called , a bass guitar, instead of being wrongly called a electric bass. Well, Anthony, it is what it is. Now, this was the wildly 70's when all this stuff came about. more strings, vs  more tone. Leo created again, The Musicman Stingray, and The sabre. Yamaha and Ibanez, made in either, Japan, or Korea, with all different options, nec
 ks, etc. Washburn, ESP, Guild, Carvin,and all other knock-offs.Then, the reissue deal.Older fenders' Gibson's and Ricks, are better(?") than their newer counterparts. Pre-CBS, Fender japan, and then, Fender Mexico. Not to leave out, CBS fenders. There's a Squier line, then a fender japan(that only sells certain models in the US) Fender Mexico, which makes again, other models which Fender US doesn't make or (it does) makes south of the border. The custom shop, which really will disappear one day, because these new "road worn" models, that the custom shop use to make? Now Gibson, is doing the same thing, a new version of the Ripper 2? I like the Ripper, back in the day, but had a weird body. Ernie Ball musicman, first came out with the S.U.B. line, then it disappeared, only to come back as
  Sterling by Musicman? I believe, cheaper is better for the working musician,but come on guys, if you cut back on all these models, and just made what you're known for, I would think, things would be better, sales wise. Come on, The Fender Jaquar Bass? What's the purpose? When Leo made the Jazz Bass, it was because,it was to follow behind the new Jazzmaster guitar. Remember, The new Jazz bass, it was more expensive than the P-bass, in those days. To me, many of these new basses on the market, are really "custom models", of what was there in the first place. Fender Gibson, and Rick. I'll give you a good example of what I'm talking about. A 1958 fender P-bass, then a fender American standard, then, a Fender standard(mexico), then a "retro" 1970 fender P-bass(japan), and a 1951 Fender P-bas
 s(Japan). Then after all that , you have a "road worn" 1950's Fender p-bass(USA),which the same thing is being made in Mexico? So, whats the deal?
