On one of the VERY few times you get anything serious out of me,,,,

Face it. Fender bridges suck. From day one Leo never did seem to get it right. A very common thing on the "Top of the Line" Jaguar and Jazzmaster guitars was to "Gibsonize" the bridge witth a tune-o-matic. 

I think the ashtray was there on the first basses (I still have mine in place, by the way) more to hide the ugly stamped sheetmetal bridge then for anything else. 

Dose anybody actually "like" the stock Fender Bridges?
