i saw Brian Bromberg playing a GK stack with Neo's at Yoshi's in Oakland. he had 2 - 4 x10 bins and a GK1001 head.. nice rig! he was also using DI, but i was right on the stage on his side.. it was a full sounding rig. If i could afford it.. i might consider going that top with 1 cabinet. but i can't.. sooo i'll stop dreaming! Yo Victa, whatsoever you do, remember this here. You can't hold no groove, If you ain't got no pocket ! --- On Mon, 11/23/09, JohnL <[email protected]> wrote: From: JohnL <[email protected]> Subject: [Bass Place] Replacement options for 15" custom ported cab? To: [email protected] Date: Monday, November 23, 2009, 12:51 PM Ok fellow Bass-Heads, I had to play one of these outdoor gigs (for like 30,000 crazy bikers) non covered stage... Well figures it rained- my Hartke Cabs were covered in plastic but my extension Bass Cab (Custom built by myself) for the drummer got soaked and it shredded to pieces by the end of the show. I generally don't care much for 15" because the "attack" sounds slow/sloppy to me (don't get me wrong, I love the warmth of a JBL or Altec- they just don't have the Transient Attack of 10's or a Hartke 15") The Speaker that now needs a recone (or trash it) is an 8 ohm 500watt Eminence PS15c (Same speakers made for Carvin before they went to cheap stamped basket 15's - which is all they use now)- it was very beefy all cast from much like an EVM or EVX 15" (only a bit more efficient) and it sounded really warm, punchy, and tight (and being a tone-freak, I'm pretty fussy) Anyhow I could get it reconed for about $75 plus shipping, but I was thinking of trying one the Modern all cast "Neo" Bass Drivers that are both Beefy in power handling and extremely light (like 1/4 the weight) I can score an awesome deal (close to $100) on one of these: http://www.eminence -speaker. com/pdf/kappalit e-3015lf. pdf <http://www.eminence -speaker. com/pdf/kappalit e-3015lf. pdf> but I'm not sure how they sound? (but there were very positive reviews from users- but mostly in regard to Sound Reinforcement Apps) The only "Neos" I've personally heard were 4x12 guitar cabs and they sounded a but thin- especially being in sealed enclosures.. Has anyone had any experience using these new Neos for Bass Guitar apps? There are lots of others out there, but some are quite pricey (hate to blow a wad for something that I will not be happy with..) Any thoughts/suggestion s?
