Yo Mark,=20

I think you may be 180 degrees out of phase on the "stupid thing"

The "I must be stupid" comment was=C2=A0=C2=A0just me cracking smart=C2=A0a=
bout the car speakers and agreeing with Mark about NEVER using them for,,,,=
well....for anything at all.=20

Just bustin' everbody's balls.=20

Expedrience? =C2=A0

As far as my background goes, I'm classically trained and =C2=A0have been p=
laying out for over 50 years. Experience-wise I was playing out 6 nights a =
week in 3 different bands at one time in my life.=C2=A0(won't ride that hor=
se again) =C2=A0I played my first paying job on the accordion in a polka ba=
nd=C2=A0when I was 8 on new years eve=C2=A01954 . I continued in the polka =
and standards bands for a number of years. =C2=A0

=C2=A0I didn't even=C2=A0START playing guitar and rock-n-roll=C2=A0untill=
=C2=A0 like 1960 and have only been playing the Bass since1962.=C2=A0 Right=
now i'm in an oldies Rock-N-Roll Fusion band and a standards type jazz ban=
d.

I freely admit I still am living in the days when a Dual Showman=C2=A0w/ D1=
30f speakers (have had one since '64) was the ultimate bass amp. That's why=
I warn younger players about me hating BASS amps with TREBLE drivers and t=
aking anything I say with a grain of salt. I am very much out of date when =
it comes to the "Buzz Bass" sound a lot of kids like.=20

By the way, I have and still do make speaker cabinets (from a pile of wood)=
=C2=A0and repair and modify tube and SS equipment for myself and friends.=
=20

Just hope everbody=C2=A0gets a chuckle or two out of it.=20

Speaking of funny,=C2=A0attached is a picture of me looking like a got a fi=
nger stuck in the strings=C2=A0taken last year. Playing my olde=C2=A0Fender=
J bass and standing in front of my beloved '68 Kustom K-200 B2 tuck and ro=
ll. (Scope the black shirt/white tie and chrome belt -=C2=A0an Al Capone ha=
t would have made it complete!)=20

To the remark made about must be stupid . No No one thinks you are Stupid. =
You were smart enough to join a group like this=C2=A0with experienced playe=
rs and ask questions. and you got their answers.

=C2=A0PErhaps stupid might be getting the cheap speakers after experienced =
people suggested other wise , but It would still take more than that for so=
meone to call you stupid . Just inexperinced at these matters .=20

=C2=A0Remember we know the answers to some of these questions because a num=
ber of us have already done it the other way .

=C2=A0I suggest=C2=A0 looking into the JBLS=20

=C2=A0Good luck

Got to agree about the harshness of the piezos, The are awfully screachie, =
but I have seen some of the younger players go for that kind of a sound. (I=
t sure aint for me)

Firstly, like I said, I would NEVER put any kind of a HF driver in my bass =
amp, but if you do and use a compression driver you have to put in a crosso=
ver, and at 300W that is not an inexpensive item in itself. Then a good com=
pression driver is also rather costly.=20

Now, that said, just for kicks I found this=C2=A0on the GC website.=C2=A0
http://www.guitarce nter.com/ Kustom-Deep- End-Series- 410-4x10- -Bass-Spea=
ker- Cabinet-481429- i1321744. gc

4-10s and a tweeter. (Likely piezo)=20

No=C2=A0Harmony Central reviews but it was voted best budget bass cabinet i=
n a couple of places ??????

Just remember, the new Kustom" has absolutly NOTHING to do with the old Bud=
Ross Kustom from Kansas like I use.=20

It dose look like the best=C2=A0 "Bang for the buck", though.

Later,=20

Steve

OH,,,,.Why would you spend $600 for=C2=A0 JBLs or Beynas=C2=A0 when you can=
get a pair of car speakers made in Hong Kong, by Ching Chong for 60 bucks =
that work just as good ???=20

Guess I must be stupid, huh?

if your going to add a tweeter to a cabinet.. don't use piezo, they sound c=
rappy , get a bullet tweeter from foster, or some of the other manufacturer=
s.=C2=A0 I also recommend what steve said, Use good drivers like JBL, ALTEC=
, EV which actually have a better range than eminence, or some of the other=
cheaper speakers, and dear god.. PLEASE don't do what i've seen=C2=A0 othe=
r bassist do.......... put car audio speakers in bass cabinets!!!=C2=A0 the=
y are inefficient,=C2=A0 sound like crap, and the impedance of the voice co=
ils is at 4 ohms per driver.

Yo Victa, whatsoever you do, remember this here. You can't hold no groove, =
If you ain't got no pocket !

=C2=A0

Hey Bass Bro,=20

I am an old 2-15" Dual Showman / Kustom (orginal)=C2=A0/ Traynor / Sunn =C2=
=A0type guy=C2=A0so I guess I'm the wrong guy to ask about cabs with HF dri=
vers, but check out the new Kustom stuff. It seems priced right, =C2=A0=C2=
=A0and then there is always good ol eBbay.=20

I picked up a couple of JBL M-151s on eBay=C2=A0 (one at a time) that I'm p=
utting into=C2=A0a spair old Kustom Tuck-N-Roll cab that i have . I don't h=
ave $200 in the pair including shipping. They are like D140fs on steroids.=
=C2=A0=C2=A0Thease bad boys can easily put out over 130db sound pressure at=
10' away with less than 100 watts driving them. (That will actually shake =
bear glasses off a table!) I don't ever play that loud but it's nice to kno=
w you have the gas to make it happen if you want.=20

The thing is if you want highs that set up is from Kanarsy. Although you co=
uld add a couple of 150W piezo horns to it. IPersonally I hate any kind of =
HF driver on a BASS amp but if you can take the harshness that could be a c=
heep way to make it happen.

Like I said, though. I am an old BASS player and I leave the treble to the =
other instruments.

If I see anything on Crag's list or anyone arond here with a cab that fits =
your specs I'll let you know.=20

Later Alligator.
