John, look at Delano pick ups, & Delano pre-amps. There on Human basses & t=
hey have a nice rich tone to them. The cheapest route to go though, would b=
e the DiMarzio's & the Agular OBP3. I played a Fender Getty Lee bass a whil=
e back, with Bart jazz pick ups & a Bart pre-amp in it. It had a very nice =
rich tone to it. But it was more of Rock sounding tone, instead of a more f=
unky tone. Which I think that your trying to achieve. About the Barts. If y=
ou go with the Barts, make sure you check them out real good before you buy=
. So that you make sure you get the right pick ups & pre-amp that you want.=

d play it, I then plugged it into an SVT & was in tone heaven. I even had t=
he Carvin with me too. So I brought it in plugged it into the SVT also, jus=
t to get a side by side. The G&L won hands down, & it wasn't even set up ri=
ght either. So, I traded up right there & then. I've never looked back at C=
arvin again. Note: if I would of kept the Carvin, I was going to get rid of=
 those pickups & replace them with Barts & a Bart pre-amp. I'm just not a b=
ig fan of Carvin pickups or EMGs either. Just IMO

 I bought this Mexican Jazz Bass New around 1999 (Mostly choose it over the=
 American Standard because it actually had 3/16" WIDER Fretboard at the Bri=
dge than the American Standard! and the deep WINE color, blew away the othe=
r choices at the time) The stock pickups sounded awful (I knew this before =
I purchased it knowing I was going to upgrade the Pickups anyhow and since =
I paid less than half the cost of an American Standard, should be plenty of=
 justification in that direction.
