Microphones

I have been reading the microphone thread with quite a bit of interest 
-- but no contribution because I wanted to read wisdom before I wrote!

Thus far I have used simple pedestal dynamics (the mikes usually present 
by default) with acceptable success, but only acceptable.  I have found 
them all awful with double-sideds, and just right at acceptable with my 
Tombos and Suzuki etcetera. 

My wife has two very good but old Shures which act like condenser mikes 
(they're not marked with model numbers, and I don't trust myself to take 
them apart), which have done much better: if they are within about eight 
to twelve inches of my instruments, they pick up nicely.

Whenever I become motivated, I'm going to look into condenser omnis and 
contact mikes.  Behringer is putting out excellent product at 
microprices these days, so I might just do that pretty soon. 

I don't know that Behringer is doing contact mikes though -- in fact, 
the last time I tried to find a contact mike which conceivably might 
work I came up with zip, zero, and nada.  Anyone know where to start 
looking?  I want wired, not wireless, I don't have the bucks to worry 
about wireless.
