Yeah, I know the nails in the reedplate thing annoys everybody, and
I'll have to fix that on my 280 restoration project. Here is another
tinkerer's idea I have for a hybrid harp...
As an inexpensive way to make a large-scale chord harp, take several
different diatonics, with all the various keys represented, and build
a "holder" so you can string them all together - side by side - and in
two decks (like the big chord harps, bassharps, etc.) Since diatonics
are generally set up to be easy to chord on, it seems they'd make a
good starting point, you can re-tune certain notes as needed. I have
no idea how to build a holder/mounting mechanism for something like
this, but it does seem possible. Maybe something you can easily
"snap-in" or "out" the individual harps, and you could replace certain
ones whenever you felt like it (which would give it an advantage over
the existing "fixed" models).
Well, just an idea. I'm a just a poor musician, and am always thinking
of ways to D.I.Y, and sometimes you end up improving on the original!
