In the past, I played I played a lot of music with a many older musicians who seemed to have a lot of polkas in their repertoires.

We have a large Polish community here in Detroit called "Pole Town." I don't think that had anything to do with all of the polkas being played because that community was so far away.

I suppose that polkas were more popular many years ago because many of the older musicians apparently played them when they were younger and played in bands. Just about all of the old timers that I played music with knew all the words to many, many polkas.

I myself love love playing polkas but I don't play them that much anymore because nobody these days play them and nobody knows or remembers any of the words to polkas. Because of this, I don't hear that many polkas being played much these days.
