If you don't want to learn to play trap-set drums, you can get yourself a Dumbek and other hand percussion, and learn to play those. I play my drum parts on the keyboard, the full length of the composition, to give it a more dynamic feel. When I quantize, I usually use a percentage quantize (80-90%), so I don't lose the human feel, plus a little swing quantize. Sometimes I record hand percussion as well (using a Shure 57, which seems to be the best for hand drums - condenser mic's are better for vocals and other instruments).
