Make sure you have your K5 set to receive System Exclusive messages. When you turn on your K5, it defaults to Not receiving sysex data. You have to manually set it every time you turn on your K5 and want to receive data via sysex. This may not be related to your problem, but whenever I have trouble sending patch data to my K5, it's usually because I forgot to set the K5 to receive sysex messages.
