"Prepared Keyboards" of yesterday...

Hi Greg,
  I was messing around with the old piano before I even knew that it 
was called a "prepared keyboard".  I learned more about it in one of 
my undergraduate classes.
  It was an old Nordheimer upright that had great tonal character, 
but that didn't stop me from experimenting - foil, waxpaper, playing 
the strings with drum sticks, or rubbing them with a guitar picks, 
blowing a heavy fan against the strings with the damper open... 
etc.  But the one thing I didn't and would try, I saw a movie clip 
of.  I can't remember whether it was John Cage or not who did this.  
An old piano loaded with gasoline was hoisted about 3 stories by 
crane.  Below mics cabled to an old 8 track tape recorder were 
strategically placed in the vacinity of impact zone. At the flick of 
a switch, the piano was ignited and dropped. The crackle of flames, 
snapping of the sound board, pinging of strings, the crash etc. were 
recorded then incorporated into another set of musique nouveau 
tracks.  What a riot.  Now I have a V-synth XT to do that for 
me....LOL
