Hi Bodie,
Sorry for the late reply. You're right about the Karma and the
lack of awareness or appreciation for the "Maroon Monster". Many of
us have often wondered the same thing. I think Korg fell short in
promoting and explaining the Karma and KARMA technology. That's
where this site and (more importantly) Karma Lab Forums (Stephen
Kay's BB) come in. However, these sites only help the converted.
There is a huge crowd of musicians who have absolutely no idea what
the Karma is and does.
As an example, last year, I took my sound sets into Sam's down
here in Florida just in case they had a Karma on display (not a usual
case). Spying one on the racks, I introduced my self and then I
asked them if I could fire it up. Loading up and picking out a few of
my favorite combis and running them through their paces left more
than a few jaws dropping. In fact one of the staff took that Karma
home in the evening and bought it the very next day.
Every music dealer I visit with my Karma can't believe what comes out
of this amazing keyboard. But, I realize staff (rampant with turnover)
cannot keep up with the latest gear in order to demonstrate the full
potential of their wares. This is probably the most likely
explanation for the vacuum of knowledge about the Karma given its
complexity and depth. The good thing for second hand owners as a
result is the incredible bargain price for such a powerful music
workstation.
Welcome to the club.
Cheers,
Eric
