Thanks for the input. I found I can get an OASYS for around $4000.00 US
used. Yea it is amazing that some people dump them shortly after purchase.
So I'm seriously looking at them. I can always sell my Karma, Triton and
Triton Studio to pay for it. I figure I would not really need them. How
would the OASYS be for live applications as well? Because we do a lot of
live and I would need to transport it.

Hi Tom,
First, I know the tug-o-war you may be going through considering the
cost of an OASYS. I went through that yes/no/it's too much/maybe I
can sell off a few pieces/get a loan/ etc. mind struggle. But, as you
know, I caved in to the OASYS lust - and I haven't regretted it a bit.

With this latest EXi - the Legacy Analog Collection - added to
eveerything else that the OASYS has, it is a real bonus. However, you
are correct; it does come with a price tag - $249 US. Let me tell you,
though, that it is vastly superior to the software Legacy Collections.
That's because within the OASYS, there is so much sound manipulation
that you can't get in any other workstation, software, synth etc. etc.
For analog freaks, it's freaking amazing. The voicing (sound
designs) and the "KARMA2-fication" added by Stephen Kay to 64 of the
programs is mind-blowing. Let me add, that it takes quite a chunk of
sonic awe to really impress me. That's part of the reason I chose to
cough up for the "O". But this new EXi is more icing on the cake.

When you consider the cost of the original MS-20 and the Polysix, both
of which are perfectly rendered with Korg's CMT - component modeling
technology (actually, these synths are greatly improved with the clean
clear sound of the OASYS), the cost is worth every penny regardless of
the functions that the "O" offers - step sequencers, KARMA 2
(incredible - far beyond Karma 1), vector joystick (amazing), ribbon
control etc. etc.

Sometime in September, OASYS owners will be able to download the demo
version of EXi-LAC and install to User Program Bank D. There will be
periodic fade-outs to the sound, but it will give a reasonable taste
of what the full version presents. All new OASYS will come preloaded
with the demo version. Nevertheless, trust me, OASYS owners won't
take very long to purchase this EXi. It's that good. 

Head over to Karma Lab and search for the GUI demo (sorry I haven't
the link handy) showing what the EXi-LAC interface and how the pages
look. You'll see graphic renditions of the MS-20 and the Polysix and
their parameters.

I'm sure you've visited Sam Ash in Tampa and come away with perplexed
feelings. I know. Every time I auditioned the OASYS before actually 
acquiring mine, I went through the same angst. Are there
alternatives? Sure. For the economy-minded, I think the Alesis
Fusion is a bargain with it's current pricing. I'm considering
selling my Fantom S and SRX cards to get one. But would I sell my "O"
to get 2 or 3 or 4 different pieces? No. 

Sorry, I know my answer may not help with a decision, but that's my
take on the latest for the OASYS. Have you talked with Brad over at
Sam's? Find out when the new demo LAC installed OASYS are coming in.
