Re: Midi Sequencer Software, any recommendations?

I've used an extensive amount of sequencers and each has it's place. 
I've used Samplitude (by far one of the best mastering quality
platforms natively), Pro Tools HD and LE, Sonar 6, Ableton 6, Cakewalk
Project 5v2, Logic 5 for Windows, Cubase SX3 and now 4...on and on.

Each one has a similar methodology to work flow and you have to look
at what your style is.  PT requires a sound desk mentality and Midi
was more of an afterthought until around 6.3.  With 7.2 now, it's very
much part of the work flow and works well.

Cubase has been a native environment for years and is one of the
finest (with VST being it's own standard) midi and audio platforms for
Windows.  

Sonar is the grandchild to TExture (written by Roger Powell of
Runt/Todd Rundgren fame) and then bought and updated to the first
versions of Cakewalk Audio by the Twelve Tone team.  Sonar still has
some of the great workflow that made using Midi in the late 80's a joy
(using Texture) and is fairly intuitive.  Although with some of the
newer features, I find myself scratching my head asking, "what?"

All in all, try before you buy, spend time with others that have them,
and learn the idiosyncracies...each one has it's quirks...the question
is truly what can you tolerate, and what features can you NOT live
without.
