external midi starts karma

hi... sorry if this has been talked about before.

please help ... i just want to make music.

what i want to do is  make Drum machines start button ..start the 
karma arps sounding...

setup - drum machine midi out goes to karma midi in. Karma is set to 
EXT midi sync.   I want to have Drum machine STOPPED,  Karma'ON hit 
the karma's keyboard and hear nothing..( keeping hand on keys or 
take them off..which ever is poss) THEN when i hit START on drum 
machine..it starts playing its beats ..and the karma starts playing 
too in sync.

as my 25yr old rolands can do this ... can the Karma?? and if so can 
someone please give me an idea how... ive had the Karma a few yrs 
and only starting to get it synced to my other gear.

drum machines = Tr707,Dr660 & ES1 or synced to a MMT8 seqencers midi 
timing out....what ever will work..
