Hello, after playing for a couple decades,I took 15 years off,and just purchased a K2500VP with a USB emulator installed where the floppy drive used to be.Back when I was using this machine, everything was still on floppy disks, and I have a considerable amount of samples and Standard MIDI Files on disk. I am going to have to either purchase or download a boatload of “NEW” tunes in the SMF format, and I imagine these days they must just be available as downloads from the computer, thus the reason why I bought this 2500VP ,instead of one with a floppy drive.

I may even end up buying another k2500VP with the floppy drive in it,as I need the added polyphony required to play many of the tunes ,as before when I used MIDI files, the cymbals would sometime cut of short when I would layer horn sections and use the FAT sounds we all love that only the Kurzweil has. I guess my questions are:

1)How can I get a setup disk that will format the K2500VP’s keymap to read General Midi Files?,I remember, after I quit playing someone came out with a disk that would allow the Kurz to play SMF’s as GM files. I had to setup the drums separately before on my own,and do not think I have this disk any longer.
2)Can I just plug the USB Emulator into the computer, and download files that way???

3)Just what is the function of the USB emulator??? I had all this figured out very well in the mid 90’s,but much has changed since then, and I need to be brought up to speed on how to save and load files onto the flashdrive in the USB emulator, and how things have changed regarding the use of GM or SMF’s with the Kurzzendorfer these days!!!!!

4)Where can I go on the web to either purchase or download SMF’s these days?

5)Where can I go on the web to get caught up on how to load, save and then ultimately PLAY the SMF’s after I get done editing them??

6)Which form of SMF’s does the Kurzweil read? Type 0 or Type 1 ?I think it was type 0,but it’s been so long,I actually am not sure anymore. I used to make a lot of money doing a one man show, with the Kurz, but all that time away I forget lots of things, and tech has come a long way since the mid 90’s

Thank you,Kenny Baughman E-mail:[email protected]
