Hi Don,
You can find all the K2500 downloads at Kurzweil's K2500 legacy support page, http://kurzweil.com/product/k2500x/downloads/ http://kurzweil.com/product/k2500x/downloads/ -- lots of good stuff in there!
Another really good resource is the K2500 Knowledge Base: http://kurzweil.com/knowledgebase/k2500/ http://kurzweil.com/knowledgebase/k2500/ And of course, Google is your friend...
When you start up the K2500, the display will show the OS version with the V.A.S.T. startup screen -- in my case it's 5.01 because I have the KDFX installed. Without the KDFX option, the latest OS is 3.02.
If you don't know what ROM/RAM/PRAM options you have, hold the "Exit" button while you power up the 2500 (or during the 2-second "please wait..." screen), which brings up the boot loader -- it will display "K2500 Boot Loader v1.13." Select the "Run Diags" option and from that menu select the "ROM Diags" which will bring up a test of the base, orchestral, contemporary and piano ROMs. Run those diags, and the columns will show "PASS" for each option installed.
With this information, you can obtain the correct version of objects to install:
3.50: Base objects -- no ROM expansions at all
3.60: Base + Piano -- ROM expansion daughter card only, no other ROM
3.70: Base + Piano + Orchestral -- Daughter card with orchestral ROM
3.80: Base + Piano + Contemporary -- Daughter card with contemporary ROM
3.90: Base + Piano + Orchestral + Contemporary -- All ROM options installed
You must select one of these.
The operating system itself is independent of these objects, which are stored in NVRAM and contain the configurations for keymaps, setups and programs, which in turn are based on all that sample ROM and the expected memory locations the individual samples.
