Yes the Gotek is cheap and it might be an option. However, I’m not sure about how it is controlled. It uses all the floppy connections and the floppy bus interface to the OS. So if some controller in that floppy bus is needed and it is corrupted then I will have the same problem with the Gotek. It will not be mounted by the OS. There is little info on how the emulator works under the hood. If you know that it does not rely on the OS FDD control and bypasses it then it would be worth a try.
