Behringer's own web page says:
"MIDI In/Out allows controlling the mixer via MIDI equipment (incl. Mackie Control* protocol) or for use as a USB MIDI interface (future firmware)"

I would use a USB MIDI interface to the PC, and not the XR18, unless it is cropping up in Reaper as a MIDI IN Port when you go through the MIDI input device list in Reaper's setup.
 

 Can you see the XR18 as a MIDI device in the list of inputs?  

 

 If so, what channel is your K2500 transmitting on?  Got to the sequencer and make sure you know what channel you are transmitting on.  Make sure that you are actually sending MIDI data out of the K2500 - it is possible for it to go Local / MIDI / Both.  

 

 Personally, I'd get an ESI 4x4 MIDI USB device, or similar as that has LEDs to indicate MIDI activity.  A copy of MIDIOX is a worthwhile investment too.  It will allow you to verify your MIDI data visually.
