Peter,

Generally YES. I use it with XS rack so no problem. In MIDI4+ you can merge, filter, change, route MIDI between 5 DIN, USB, Ethernet.
If RTP MIDI is ok for triggering sound then all will work good. I never used MIDI over LAN for triggering synths only for program changes / CC but… I use it over WiFi.

If you put USB hub in front of your rack then plugging/unplugging FTP is piece of cake. Remember you can use PFactor and its additional pedals/expression as Hold/Sustain pedal for FTP too :)

First gen. of iConnect is more similar to Kenton but t works as a bridge for iOS devices and computers. No 5 DIN, no Ethernet.

BTW: I had Yamaha G50 and FTP is far far better. Like Roland GR55 was better. It was slower but more accurate esp. on internal PCM sounds. FTP is fast as Axon was and (of course if you program it and your synth correctly — PB ranges, velocity dynamic, sensitivity) it is far beyond.
