Thank you for mentioning it. I watched the video, then bought the app. (On sale through Jan 21.)

However, I haven't found the opportunity to resume making music for some twelve years, merely checking my purchases, so don't expect me to be a GeoShred expert soon.

Shifting focus:

It was the limited app GarageBand on an iPad 2, on display in a store in 2011, that made me want a tablet computer. I have an iPad 4 and an iPod Touch dedicated to music, and I have quite some music apps installed on them. I also have some MIDI hardware to match, like interfaces by IK Multimedia. And even that iPad 2 is quite responsive.
I also have some music apps installed on Android hardware, but I have yet to check (when?) if MIDI latency has grown acceptable there (on my current devices with their current Android versions).

GeoShred doesn't come out of the blue: I must have some two apps installed for years with similar approaches, probably including one named Shredder. Another might be grüvtron (also on Android).
So (in my opinion) there /is/ competition.

Anyway, from both the guitar and the MIDI point of view, tablets and smartphones (those by Apple in particular) may well deserve ample attention. Also in the portability field.
I seem to remember (from preparing for a possible jam session last April) that I used an iPod Touch with AmpliTube app as a portable multi-effect, sending the output over Bluetooth to a battery-powered loudspeaker. With too much latency, as I seem to remember, but it wasn't my snappiest hardware.

Just my two cents. :-)
