As a longtime (with bass) Axon 100 user I know these units well and have
tried numerous other options. Still the Axon proves to be a very fast and
reliable system. Yes they are dwindling in numbers but for me it is still
the most reliable for my applications.
I recently custom ordered and received the new (and very first production
model) Expressiv Midi bass from Rob O'Reilly guitars (Ireland). This model
utilizes both a peizo saddle system as well as a system like the one in
Frettrax.
I am able to switch between standard picking and tap modes. Even though it
integrates these two commercially available systems somehow he managed to
trim off a noticeable amount of the latency I have compared to my GraphTech
basses.
The new O'Reilly bass also has onboard memory so saving/recalling different
sounds/tunings is easy.
Mind you these instruments are not cheap. But from a latency standpoint I
believe O'Relilly is really taking things in a direction for bassists
unseen until now. Still love the Axon however and the basses I use with
that unit have by no means been obsoleted by the new Expressiv bass. Both
systems have their pros and cons. Happy to go more in depth if anyone
interested..in the meantime do yourself the favor of checking out
O'Reilly's offerings of midi instruments..
