IIRC some cables only have 3 wires inside; while others have 5.  You can
of course check that with an ohm meter.

And stand by for corrections in case my 78 yo memory has gone even
further south!!!

I further checked and I can communicate with the axon with midiox.
I can also communicate with the motif with midiox.
The motif is working flawlessly controlled from either windows or Linux,
but works better on linux by far.

The problem is therefore seemingly the connection between the Motif and
the axon, so I need to ask about midi cables in general.

Do I need some special 5pin din cable such as crossover cables or is the
midi
cables exactly the same for input2output and output2input?

Must be the same, but I ask anyway.

What are the differences between audio 5pin din and midi 5pin din cables ?
If they are different, then an audio Din cable must have made its way
into my cable box and could be the reason for the connection problems.
