One more thought: I had a similar challenge a few years back (with the 
old "Biography" et al. plugins). I decide to provide an additional 
plugin to add those libraries if the underlying system didn't provide 
it. At least that way x plugins could share one installation of these 
libraries, rather than having them in each plugin separately.

(thinking this a bit further I came to conclusion that we should have a 
built-in dependency manager... NOT!)
