Ah, now I understand! I hadn't realized the shop tried a new PS. I was under the impression that the guy "tried one that he had laying around" I guess I made that part up in my head :) Again, be careful of replying on a voltage measurement. That voltage needs to be maintained when current is drawn, That is where PS's can look ok, but fail once the device starts operating (like booting up). I bought a used radio that would turn on, boot up, but when it got to the part where the audio amp turns on (that soft click), it would turn off, start to reboot, fail, repeat. It was the PS. Some of these adaptors, and I think the one that @w3w recommended have various plug size and polarity adaptors. I made a rig out of these so that I can measure current as well as voltage without cutting the adaptor wire, so - Power Supply -> modified adaptor -> radio. The modified adaptor is female barrel -> wires exposed (or use terminal blocks)-> male barrel. Yes, it seems like overkill, but I was interested in the current draw of the radio in various states (off, soft off, on, playing). Last option is a new radio :). Here in the US there are a flood of these used on ebay for about $50USD. I think they were $299 new, and I love them, very versitile and good sound. Maybe on your side of the big pond as well.
