Check the jack (as Philippe mentioned), and measure the voltage/current as you you power up (on the receptical - confirms adaptor and receptical both fine). As far as options, there are many in the sb universe, but your need of a hands on UI limits the choices. Maybe start a new thread and others can chime in. For example, I have an android pad by my bed and run sb_player, with material as UI, and listen with my ear buds. You could easily sub a bluetooth speaker.
