I apologize, I missed paragraph 3 about the UPS. I agree with Greg, it sounds like a loss of power integrity to me as well - voltage or frequency. But some of the symptoms you describe are what I have experienced during cuts. You mention that you have several devices on your UPS. As a start, make sure you are not exceeding the max load for the device. Perhaps consider a smaller separate UPS for the pi.
