Major differences between output/input waveforms in Audacity

I posted this in another thread (where it will probably get ignored
[emoji3]) but does anyone have any idea why a loopback recording made in
Audacity is so obviously different to the waveform of the original audio
file?

I played the file in Squeezelite-X, Squeezeplay and Foobar 2000 with the
same results. The waveform is clearly a different shape. I am (not for
the first time) confused.
