Touch Volume stuck....

After many many years my Touch volume just stopped working. Squeezebox
on same network works fine. 
I run LMS on a central server and adjusting volume from server does not
work. 
Volume is NOT set to fixed 100% on the server or on the Touch.
I use remote control so never change the touch settings (Except for
trouble shooting this issue!)... Using remote volume (which is how I
control volume through my old Amp, has no effect. 
Setup is Ethernet input and linout to DAC to analog amp. 
Also tested without DAC inline to be sure its not that.
The volume is constant and unchangeable. 

Given I believe it is a digital/software volume control I am a bit
miffed here. 

Any thoughts very welcome as much needed for Xmas!
