Why bother with all-digital, when you're dealing with the reduced fidelity of MP3 anyway? If you really care that much about sound quality, you shouldn't be using MP3 in the first place. Now if you could play non-lossy formats, all-digital might make sense.... and if I were going to speculate, I might guess that some future hardware design might take that into account....
