I knew i needed an excuse to try CVS.  Much nicer with it all in place.  
I didn't have as much luck with a diff however.  Working on that
volume idea shown in the example, it seemed a [GT...] tag was needed.
 I managed that by adding the following line after lin 714 in HTTP.pm:

$template=~s/\[GT\s+([^\[\]]+)\s+(.+?)\](.*?)\[\/GT\]/(defined($$hashref{$1})
&& $$hashref{$1} < $2) ? $3 :  ''/esg;

Then, its as simple as using the slider image template from the Dark
skin, using GT instead of EQ to generate the images.

hope that's a simple enough change not to have been a pain by not
using diff.
