Which ID3 tags are used by the server?

MP3 files may contain both V1.x and V2.x ID3 tags. And they aren't
necessarily in sync, even for basic items such as Artist, Album or
Title. What the rules for which of these fields are used by the
current SliMP3 server in building its music database?

My predicament: I need, from time-to-time, to edit these fields,
because I made some kind of error in entering the data. I use "mpi",
by Doug Bagley for this purpose. MPI, written in PERL (as is the
server), utilizes the MP3::Info module for getting and setting tags.
However, Info.pm is currently capable of setting only V1.x tags, not
V2.x; hence things get out of sync! Perhaps someone can recommend a
different LINUX-based tag editor that I should be using, or some other
route to a solution.
