I have stacks of photos here of earlier Slim prototypes... was planning
to scan them all in and make a Slim Museum. :)

The one in that photo is the first of two wire wrapped prototypes.  It was
a different design from the current model - used a $65 FIFO chip and pair
of PIC microcontrollers (too expesnsive). There was a second board on the
back which had the MPEG decoder and DAC. Max data rate was 128Kbps.

After that, there were about four more board revisions over the course of
a year, before the production model was ready...
