Hi all, Had my SliMP3 for about a week now. Overall, I'm pretty happy. :) I loved the fact that Sean offered to put the 1.2 firmware (released about on the day I ordered) on my unit prior to shipping to me. I hope to start playing with the code soon, but since I'll be offline for a few days, I just wanted to send a quick note on first impressions. The physical unit's look and feel is great. Everyone I showed it to at the office when I got it thought it looked cool. Setup was very easy. 10/10 for that. The screen is really borderline for me to read it from my couch. It's plenty bright but the letters are *just* a little small. I'm probably not the first one to offer this particular bit of insight. The UI is pretty intuitive and makes navigation easy. But what the non-primary buttons do on the remote is sometimes confusing and non-obvious (and undocumented). As others have noted, scanning takes forever and that's one thing I'll be looking to change in *my* source tree pretty soon. Sound *quality* seems very good, but I see a *significant* volume difference between playing a CD and playing an MP3 of said CD through the SliMP3. I am ripping with the latest CDex (1.40beta9) using the LAME encoder at high-ish bit rates (>=160kbps) and without normalizing. My decibel meter quantifies the difference at about 5db. I've looked at the archives and found one other person with this issue who thought there was something wrong with his MP3s, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong. I've got some ideas that I'd like to work on wrt to what is on the display when you're not playing MP3s - ie give options other than the time and make it easy to customize. Anyhow, thanks to Slim Devices for a cool product! I hope I can contribute a little code in the not too distant future. ===== Pascal Gaudette <pascal_gaudette-FFYn/[email protected]> ______________________________________________________________________ Web-hosting solutions for home and business! http://website.yahoo.ca ------------------------ Yahoo!
