Strange problem with new unit

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the lucky people who found a SliMP3 under my tree this
morning.  My girlfriend is the coolest, what can I say?
I hooked it up and got it working pretty quickly--I wish more of my
favorite toys used DHCP.

I ran into a perplexing problem that I'd like to report, and see if
anyone has some ideas.

First let me say that the unit plays MP3s better than anything I've 
heard yet.  It's a beautiful little unit, and I love it.  Now for
the problem.

If I don't connect the unit to my preamp, everything works great.
The unit gets an IP address via DHCP, finds the server running, 
gets the top level menu list, and is ready to play.  Queueing 
tracks are played properly.  Totally functional. 

As soon as I connect the unit to my preamp, the ethernet traffic 
stops right away.  I tried plugging the unit into my girlfriend's
keyboard amp and it works flawlessly with that.

I'm convinced that there's some line noise or something coming in 
on the audio RCAs that interferes with the ethernet signal.  I will
do some further experimentation to try to isolate it--most likely
it will be the damn cable TV that I've had to install a filter on
to prevent the 60Hz from bleeding into the video.

Any other suggestions or comments would be welcome--especially from
those with an electrical background.  I'm a software guy myself 8^)
