That seems a little bit half assed, to me.

I guess it could be worth having, for a live setup, but you could also carry a MIDI librarian device of some sort, or a laptop / netbook of some sort, running something like JSynthLib or even just MIDI-OX.  I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble, any more.

I've also seen a suggestion of just having a bigger RAM chip, with a rotary switch to work two more address lines - preferably while it's turned off.  If I wanted to make such a thing, I'd be more comfortable doing it that way.

TX81Zs are cheap though, especially for what they are.  I've seen them for £150 GBP or less, in the UK, so $200 should cover it, I expect.  I think prices are generally better for people in the US too.

JSynthLib supports the TX81Z for patch (voice) editing, and as a patch librarian.  It doesn't let you edit performances though.  I think the Matt Gregory one does more, and I'll have to have another go with it.  I got into using JSynthLib because it also supports my TX7.

I haven't tried it yet, because my WT11 is set up in the cellar, with just an old laptop running XP, but I expect JSyntLib would allow voice editing on a WT11, just by telling it it's a TX81Z.  Performance editing through the "Secret Mode" isn't too bad on the WT11, because there aren't many parameters to edit.

On the whole, I think the WT11 is the better machine, for a wind controller player.  The presets are more useful out of the box, there are 32 performances in RAM instead of 24, three banks of performance presets, and each voice has a pitch envelope... though I'm not used to having one, so I wouldn't really miss that.  It has a WX socket for the WX5, WX7 and WX11 wind controllers too - not essential, but useful.  

For keyboards, I think the TX81Z is the better choice, because most of the presets are more suited to keyboards, and there's better specific support for it.  The on screen editing is probably better too, but the ergonomics of trying to do that with rack equipment aren't so good.

I've seen the WT11 on ebay with higher prices being asked than for the TX81Z, but I don't know how many actually sold.  I've also seen them for less, so I waited and got one for a bit less than I paid for my TX81Z.
