There are a couple of issues with replacing the DX-5 LCD display.

The first is that the original display uses an electroluminescent
backlight which has a high voltage drive. The EL panel dims with age.
These displays are rare now. If the problem with the display is a dead
backlight then it is possible to just replace the EL panel. This is pretty
simple to do and you can find replacement EL panels for sale online.

If the entire display needs to be replaced modern LCD displays use an LED
backlight with a much longer life. The main problem here is that the LED
backlights are thicker so the overall display has more depth. The signals,
controller chip and pinout are compatible though.

With the DX5 there is not really enough depth to mount an LED BL display.
Some physical modifications would be needed.

The other thing that you would need to do is to remove the high voltage EL
circuitry and wire in the LED backlight.

Not an impossible task but it will take some skill so you would have to
judge how practical it would be to do this yourself.

I have done this upgrade to several of my synths. The main issue with the
DX-5 is lack of space to mount a modern display. You can just cram it in
but the circuit board behind the display bulges out and is under stress.
Not great.
