Re: Dead DX7 Mark I - Repair questions -- Help!

I have a DX7 II with E! that had very similar symptoms when I bought it off of ebay, and all it needed was a new battery and to reinitialize the E! 

 I don't remember the initialization process, it was a bit convoluted but well documented.
 

 So, before starting to rip out the E! and burning EPROMs etc, I would do as Gregg suggests: check the power supply and battery voltages and replace the battery (and capacitors, if needed), re-initialize the E! and that might be all there is to it.
 

 Also, if you only want to use it as a MIDI controller, maybe it already works well enough for that even with its display showing weird characters.

 P.S. There are many non-native English speaker on this forum (and on the Internet in general) so please try to avoid using slang, rare or unusual words like "pooched" and "per" especially when the meaning you intend doesn't match what dictionaries think the word means:
 

 I had only ever seen the word "pooch" used to mean "dog" before, but apparently it has an entirely different meaning:

 

 pooch: verb informal•US
 past tense: pooched; past participle: pooched
 protrude or cause to protrude.
 "a dress that made her stomach pooch out even more than usual"







 Similarly, according to Oxford dictionary, per is a preposition and means: "for each" and "by means of".

 "I'm hoping to use it like a Hammond B3 as I think the edges weren’t so sharp per waterfall techniques. "
 Don't you just mean "for gigging" and "for the waterfall technique" ?
