I know how that feels ... it happened to me once. I know it's a little bit
off-topic in this mailinglist but: It's very unlikely that your photos are
*completely* gone. There are apps that allow you to recover lost photos
and other files. It helped me to recover many photos that I thought were
lost on my Android phone.
Can't remember the name of the app. I tried several different ones.
Similar apps I'm sure also exist for iPhones if you don't have an Android
phone.
